They say sitting is the new smoking. Not in the way of looking cool lol. More in the silent killer part. Sitting for long periods does a myriad of horrible things. Among them include slowing down all systems in the body, compressing your organs, distorting your skeletal structure, and  weakening and destroying muscles.

When you sit, blood flows slower and muscles burn less fat, which makes it easier for fatty acids to clog your heart.After 30 minutes ofsitting the body begins to go into storage mode since you are telling it that it no longer needs to energy.The decreased muscle contractions that occurs with prolonged, immobile sitting weaken and destroy muscles.The distortion of the pelvis, head and shoulders cause pressure and compensation to surrounding muscles and joints.
